Amritsar: Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar has achieved a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking by dismantling an international drug supply module linked to overseas handlers. Three accused have been arrested in connection with the case.

According to the police, the arrested individuals were found in possession of four kilograms of heroin, a pistol magazine, five live cartridges and ₹3.90 lakh in drug money. The seized heroin is estimated to be worth several crores of rupees in the international market.

Police officials said the network was traced by swiftly acting on both forward and backward links following specific intelligence inputs. A trap was laid by the Counter Intelligence team, leading to the arrest of all three suspects.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the drug module was connected to an overseas-based handler identified as Lakhwinder Singh, also known as Baba Lakha. The probe has also indicated the involvement of Daya Singh alias Preet Saikho, who is currently lodged in a central jail and is believed to have played a key role in operating the network.

Authorities are now investigating how the drug supply chain was being managed from within the jail and are working to identify other individuals involved in the operation.

A case has been registered against the accused at the SSOC police station in Amritsar under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act. Police said several crucial leads have emerged during interrogation, and further arrests are likely in the coming days.

Punjab Police reiterated that it will not allow the drug trade to flourish in the state under any circumstances. The anti-drugs campaign will continue with full force to dismantle trafficking networks and make Punjab drug-free.
