Mohali: Former Punjab minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia will remain in custody for at least another day after the Mohali court deferred its ruling on his bail plea in a disproportionate assets case.

The high-profile hearing saw a 90-minute-long exchange of arguments between the defence and prosecution. Majithia’s wife, MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia, attended the proceedings, which concluded without a verdict. The court has scheduled the next hearing for August 12, when a decision is expected.

Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on June 25 from his Amritsar residence and has since been lodged in Patiala’s New Nabha Jail. Investigations have extended beyond Punjab, with vigilance teams probing leads in Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.

In a personal moment behind bars, Majithia recently marked Raksha Bandhan with his sister, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who tied him a rakhi during a visit to Nabha Jail.
