Chandigarh: Punjabi singers Yo Yo Honey Singh and Karan Aujla have issued apologies following a summons from the Punjab State Women’s Commission over lyrics deemed disrespectful towards women.

Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill confirmed that both artists conveyed their regret after being questioned about their songs, which the panel said contained objectionable language undermining the dignity of women.

Earlier, the Commission had initiated an inquiry after Gill personally reviewed the tracks and found certain expressions to be inappropriate. The singers were called to appear before the body, where they were asked to explain their choice of lyrics and warned against using such content in the future.

Gill said that both Honey Singh and Aujla have assured the Commission that they will be more cautious with their music going forward.

The matter had gained public attention after complaints were lodged over Honey Singh’s song Millionaire and Karan Aujla’s MF Gabru, prompting the Commission to request a police report and consider preventive measures against similar cases.
