New Delhi — The Chinese Embassy in India will roll out its new online visa application system on December 22, marking a major shift toward digital processing for travellers. Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong announced the development on Monday, noting that applicants will now be able to fill out forms and upload documents entirely online.
In a post shared on X, the ambassador said the service can be accessed through the official website, where detailed guidelines are available. The Chinese Visa Application Service Center in New Delhi will continue to operate during its regular hours—Monday to Friday, 9 am to 3 pm—at the Shivaji Stadium Metro Station concourse. A dedicated helpline has also been provided for queries.
The launch comes just weeks after India fully restored its visa regime for Chinese nationals following a five-year freeze imposed after the 2020 border clashes. On November 26, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that both tourist and business visas for Chinese nationals are now “fully functional.” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is once again issuing tourist visas globally, building on the phased reopening that began earlier this year.
Tourist visas officially resumed in November 2025, while business visas had already been restored. The reopening is part of a broader set of confidence-building measures agreed upon in 2025, which also saw direct commercial flights resume in October and the revival of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra.
The move is expected to significantly boost tourism, commercial activity, and people-to-people engagement between India and China, two of the world’s most populous nations.
