New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party surged ahead in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-elections on result day, picking up two prominent wards even as counting continued across the capital.

BJP takes Shalimar Bagh B, Chandni Chowk

In Shalimar Bagh B, a ward long considered a stronghold for the party and once represented by current Mayor Rekha Gupta, the BJP posted a resounding win. Anita Jain, the party’s candidate, cruised to victory with a margin exceeding 10,000 votes, reinforcing the BJP’s organisational grip in the region.

The party also secured a win in Chandni Chowk, one of the most watched wards in this by-election cycle. Suman Kumar Gupta defeated AAP’s Harsh Sharma, adding to the BJP’s early momentum.

AAP and Congress open their accounts

The Aam Aadmi Party opened its tally after Ramswaroop Kanojia emerged victorious from the Dakshinpuri ward, marking the party’s first success of the day.

The Congress, aiming to re-establish itself in Delhi’s civic sphere, notched a notable win in Sangam Vihar. Suresh Choudhary registered a comfortable victory with a lead of over 12,000 votes, giving the party a much-needed morale boost.

A three-way fight as counting continues

Results for all 12 wards are still being tallied, but the initial picture points to a tightly contested three-cornered fight. The BJP’s early lead positions it strongly, while AAP and Congress have shown they remain in play as the day progresses.

Political observers say these bypoll outcomes may serve as an indicator of public sentiment in Delhi ahead of upcoming electoral challenges, making every result in this round of voting closely watched.
