Guntur: A 25-year-old woman, the daughter of an IAS officer, died by suicide at her parents’ home in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district after earlier accusing her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment, police said on Tuesday.

According to officials, the woman had fallen in love with a man from her village in Bugganapalli in Betancharla Mandal of Nandyal district. The couple married on March 5 and informed both families two days later. Their marriage was formally registered soon after.

Months later, she contacted her parents and complained of dowry harassment. Her family brought her back home, where she had been staying since then, police said.

Following her death, authorities have registered a case under Section 80 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to dowry deaths. The investigation is currently underway.
