Punjab Still Waiting for ₹1600 Crore Relief as Bihar and Gujarat Get Instant Aid — Is the Central Government Partial?

Chandigarh: The terrible floods of 2025 destroyed Punjab. Millions of acres of crops were submerged, hundreds of villages were flooded, thousands of families became homeless. In that difficult time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself came to Punjab. He did an aerial survey, made big promises in front of cameras and announced that the Central Government would give ₹1600 crores in special aid to Punjab for flood relief. The people of Punjab felt relieved that at least the Central Government was standing with them.

But today, after several months have passed, not even one rupee of that ₹1600 crores has reached Punjab’s account. Not a single penny. The Center has neither sent any official letter nor released any installment. The Prime Minister’s grand announcement remained limited only to cameras and headlines. The people of Punjab are still suffering from those flood wounds and the Central Government has turned its face away.

The Punjab Government wrote letters to the Center repeatedly. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself wrote letters to the Prime Minister and Home Minister, asked for meetings, sent reminders. Every time the answer was – “It is being considered”, “The process is ongoing”. But the process has not been completed till today. Hundreds died, billions were lost in damages, yet the Central Government’s sleep did not break.

On the other hand, when floods come in Bihar, Assam or Gujarat, the Central Government immediately announces a package, immediately transfers money. If the Chief Minister there is from BJP, the amount becomes double or triple. But Punjab? Punjab has an Aam Aadmi Party government, so here there is discrimination, neglect and punishment. BJP thinks that Punjab needs to be taught a lesson, even if millions of farmers and laborers reach the brink of starvation.

Central ministers sometimes claim to have given ₹411 crores, sometimes ₹480 crores, sometimes ₹800 crores, but not even one rupee has come into Punjab’s treasury. These false press releases are only to mislead the public. The truth is recorded in RTI and government records – not a single penny of the ₹1600 crores has come. This is not just cheating, it is betrayal of Punjab.

Punjab has always given grain to the country, protected the country’s borders, given the most soldiers. But when Punjab is in trouble, the Central Government is stabbing it in the back. This is political revenge, it is regional discrimination, it is violation of constitutional rights.

The people of Punjab are watching all this. The 2027 Assembly elections are not far away. The day Punjab answers back, the corridors of power in Delhi will shake. Because Punjab does not forgive, Punjab remembers.
