New Delhi: Passengers flying on domestic routes over the coming days may face schedule disruptions, with both Air India and IndiGo alerting customers to potential delays caused by mandatory software and hardware updates on Airbus A320-family aircraft.
The advisories follow a global technical directive issued by Airbus, requiring operators of its A320 series to carry out an alignment of specific onboard systems. The update affects a portion of both airlines’ fleets and is expected to extend aircraft turnaround times.
Air India, in a post on X, said it has begun complying with the new requirement and anticipates temporary operational impacts. The carrier asked passengers to monitor flight status before travelling, noting that updates are available on its website and through its customer support channels. “The realignment will increase turnaround time for some aircraft and may cause delays. We regret any inconvenience this may cause,” the airline said.
The notice comes just as Air India wrapped up a major retrofit effort for its older A320neo fleet. The final aircraft in a 27-plane refurbishment programme recently re-entered service featuring refreshed cabin interiors and updated livery designs. Alongside new deliveries and additions through the Vistara merger, Air India now operates 104 A320-family jets equipped with new or upgraded interiors.
IndiGo, which flies the largest A320 fleet in the country, issued a similar advisory, emphasising its commitment to safety as it undertakes the Airbus-mandated updates. The airline said that while most operations will continue as scheduled, minor changes to some flights are possible during the upgrade period. It encouraged travellers to verify flight information online before heading to the airport. “Our teams remain available 24/7 to support customers with rebooking and provide the latest travel updates,” IndiGo said in its statement.
Both airlines stressed that they are working to limit inconvenience and complete the updates as efficiently as possible, even as they comply with the precautionary measures outlined by Airbus.
