Canacona (Goa): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled a 77-feet-tall bronze statue of Lord Rama at the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in South Goa. The ceremony marked a major spiritual milestone for the Math, which is celebrating its 550th year under the Sardha Panchashatamanotsava.

Alongside the statue inauguration, the Prime Minister also opened the newly developed Ramayana Theme Park on the premises. He released a special postal stamp and launched a commemorative coin to mark the occasion.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi participated in a grand roadshow in Karnataka’s Udupi after joining the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana—a massive devotional event at Sri Krishna Matha where over one lakh devotees, including monks, students, and scholars, recited shlokas from the Bhagwat Gita in unison. He also inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha, a golden cover for the revered Kanakana Kindi.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister praised Udupi’s contribution to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s governance legacy. He recalled the early leadership of Jana Sangh member VS Acharya, noting that the region introduced progressive cleanliness and civic models as far back as the 1960s and 70s.

He said the mass recitation of the Bhagwat Gita displayed India’s spiritual strength before the world. According to him, the collective chanting generated an “energy” that embodied unity and devotion.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the spiritual link between Udupi and Gujarat’s Dwarka, honouring Jagadguru Madhwacharya, founder of the Math, for his lasting influence on India’s philosophical and cultural heritage.
