Chandigarh – In a significant announcement coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan, Punjab’s Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur, declared the promotion of 435 Anganwadi Helpers to the post of Anganwadi Workers. The move is being seen as a festive gift to thousands of women who form the backbone of the state’s community-based childcare network.

Sharing further details, Dr. Kaur said that all Anganwadi Helpers who have passed Class 10 and completed over 10 years of service will soon be promoted to the position of Worker. The department has already issued the necessary directives to ensure this process moves ahead without delay.

Addressing the long-standing demands of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers, Dr. Kaur announced that the Punjab Government has approved compassionate appointments for dependents of those who have become permanently disabled in service or are suffering from life-threatening illnesses. All pending cases related to compassionate appointments and transfers must be settled by August 31, 2025, she directed.

Looking ahead, the Minister revealed that the state will initiate a large-scale recruitment drive to fill nearly 5,000 vacant posts of Anganwadi Helpers and Workers. The process will begin on September 1, 2025, and will be conducted in a transparent, merit-based manner. Dr. Kaur warned all District Programme Officers and Child Development Project Officers that any negligence or corruption during recruitment would lead to strict action, with the entire process set to conclude by September 30, 2025.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment under Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Dr. Kaur said such promotions not only provide economic stability but also strengthen women’s role in shaping their families and communities. “These measures are another important step towards empowering women socially and economically, ensuring they can contribute actively to the progress of society,” she added.
