SRI ANANDPUR SAHIB: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced the establishment of a world-class university named after Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in Sri Anandpur Sahib. The announcement was made during the state-level events commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the Ninth Sikh Guru.

Addressing the large congregation, CM Mann stated that the new institution would serve as a global centre for high-quality education, research, and the study of cultural heritage, actively reflecting the revered Guru’s teachings on human rights, peace, and sacrifice. The government is expected to release further details on the project’s structure and timeline shortly.

In addition to the university, the Chief Minister announced that a heritage street would be developed in the holy city. This street will connect the historic sites of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib and Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, significantly enhancing the experience for visiting devotees and promoting religious tourism. The state government has also decided to provide free e-rickshaw or mini-bus services to ferry devotees between the gurdwaras in Anandpur Sahib, Amritsar, and Talwandi Sabo.

The announcements follow the Punjab Assembly’s unanimous passage of a resolution the previous day, officially declaring Sri Anandpur Sahib, along with Amritsar walled city and Talwandi Sabo, as holy cities, where the sale and use of meat, liquor, and tobacco will be prohibited.
