New Delhi: Continuous heavy rains since Friday night turned tragic in Jaitpur, South-East Delhi, when an old wall of a house gave way early Saturday, burying multiple people beneath the rubble. Officials confirmed that eight people were pulled from the debris, seven of whom have since died.

The deceased include three men, two women, and two young girls. The men were identified as 30-year-old Shabibul, 30-year-old Rabibul, and 45-year-old Muttu Ali. The women were named as 25-year-old Rubina and 25-year-old Dolly, while the girls were six-year-old Rukhsana and seven-year-old Haseena.

According to authorities, five victims were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where three succumbed to their injuries. Three others were taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where all were declared dead. The lone survivor, Hasibul, remains under treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.

Eyewitness Anand Jaiswal described scenes of chaos and urgency as residents rushed in to help before rescue teams arrived. “People didn’t wait for official help — they began clearing the debris themselves to save those trapped,” he said, adding that the injuries were severe and the incident deeply shook the local community.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the collapse, though the persistent downpour is suspected to have weakened the old structure. Rescue and safety inspections are continuing in the area to prevent further such incidents.
