Trump Says U.S. Has Identified Possible Ukraine–Russia Peace Path, Awaits Zelenskyy’s Approval

Washington, DC — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington may have found a potential route to end the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict, but made it clear that any plan will advance only with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s approval.

Speaking at the Oval Office, Trump told reporters that the administration believes “a way of getting peace” is within reach, though he refrained from predicting the outcome. His comments come as Kyiv studies a new U.S.-crafted peace framework that is still being revised, according to CNN.

Earlier in the day, Zelenskyy warned that Ukraine was entering one of the most critical moments in its modern history. Addressing a crowd outside his Kyiv office, he said the country may soon face a difficult choice that could affect both its dignity and its relationship with the United States. He vowed never to compromise on Ukraine’s freedom or betray its people.

U.S. discussions include elements that could require Ukraine to make concessions in the eastern Donbas region and accept limits on its military capabilities, in return for security guarantees backed by Washington. Officials familiar with the deliberations stressed that the draft remains a work in progress and that several points—especially those tilted toward Moscow—are likely to change.

The proposed 28-point plan has reportedly been reviewed by Trump and received his initial support. However, any final agreement would demand compromises from both Kyiv and Moscow, whose conflict escalated into full-scale war after Russia’s invasion in 2022.

Some of the conditions currently being circulated have been rejected by Ukraine in the past, particularly those involving territorial concessions in regions where Russia does not have full control. Negotiations are expected to continue as Washington attempts once again to revive stalled peace efforts and bring an end to nearly three years of war.
