Amritsar: Punjab Police have busted a major gangster module in Amritsar after the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) joined hands with Counter Intelligence Pathankot for a coordinated operation. The joint team arrested three accused and recovered two 30-bore star-mark pistols along with 15 live cartridges.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested men were acting on the directions of Armenia-based gangster Raja Haruwal, who was reportedly arranging weapon deliveries and running the network from abroad.

According to officials, the module was not only involved in the circulation of illegal weapons and money but was also conducting reconnaissance at various locations across Punjab. Police believe the accused were planning future extortion attempts and other criminal activities based on their surveillance.

The three arrested men have a criminal record, with cases of kidnapping, attempted murder, and possession of illegal firearms registered against them in Batala, Gurdaspur, and Amritsar. Their arrest has prompted the police to begin tracing the forward and backward links of the network to dismantle the entire gang.

An FIR has been registered at SSOC Amritsar, and further investigation is underway. The DGP reaffirmed the state police’s commitment to intensifying action against organised crime, adding that strict operations like these will help strengthen law and order and enhance the public’s sense of security.
