Punjab Introduces Teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in All Schools to Mark 350th Martyrdom Anniversary

Sri Anandpur Sahib (Punjab): In a historic move to promote value-based education, the Punjab Government has announced that the life, teachings, and supreme sacrifice of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji will be included in the curriculum of all government and private schools across the state. The decision coincides with the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of the Ninth Sikh Guru.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains officially launched the initiative at Government High School Dasgrai and Mount Carmel School Jindwari in Rupnagar district. Speaking at the event, Bains said Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s message of sacrifice, faith, and communal harmony remains deeply relevant in today’s world.

“Guru Sahib laid down his life for the protection of humanity and the freedom of conscience. It is our sacred duty to ensure that every child learns about this noble legacy,” Bains stated.

As part of the program, schools will conduct special lectures, poetry recitations, essay and speech competitions, art exhibitions, and book fairs dedicated to Guru Sahib’s life and philosophy. The Education Department will also organize statewide commemorative events to help students internalize his principles of truth, tolerance, and courage.

Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia, Assistant Commissioner Abhimanyu Malik, and SDM Jaspreet Singh attended the event, lauding the initiative as a milestone in strengthening moral and spiritual education among youth.

Minister Bains reiterated that the government’s vision extends beyond academic excellence. “Our goal is to nurture compassionate, self-reliant, and socially responsible citizens who embody the values Guru Sahib stood for,” he said. He also urged teachers to impart Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s teachings with “love, devotion, and sincerity.”
