Mohali: A quiet Mohali neighbourhood was jolted awake in the early hours of Friday after two unidentified men on a motorcycle unleashed a barrage of gunfire outside a residence in Phase 7, an upscale part of the city.

According to police officials, the assailants fired nearly 35 rounds at a house located just behind the Phase 7 police station and close to the NRI police station before speeding away. Three parked cars belonging to nearby residents were left riddled with bullets in the attack.

The homeowner, Maninder Singh, a retired government employee, told investigators that he has no personal disputes or known enmities. “We have no idea who could have done this. It was shocking to see the damage in the morning,” Singh said.

CCTV footage from the area shows two men arriving on a motorbike, stopping briefly outside the residence, and opening fire for roughly 40 seconds before fleeing.

A large police contingent was dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident. Forensic teams collected bullet casings and examined the damaged vehicles as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have not yet received any threat or ransom demands related to the shooting. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though police say all possible angles are being explored.

This is the latest in a string of recent firing incidents in Mohali’s high-end sectors, raising concerns over rising gun-related crime in the city’s residential areas.
