Iran Strikes Saudi Air Base and Tel Aviv in Retaliation for Israeli Raid on Nuclear Sites

Tehran: In a dramatic escalation of the West Asia conflict, Iran launched a massive retaliatory strike on Friday, March 27, 2026, targeting the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia and several locations across Israel. The Iranian offensive followed hours after the Israeli military conducted air raids on Iranian nuclear installations. According to US officials speaking to the Wall Street Journal, the missile and drone strike on the Saudi base injured at least 10 American service members, with two reportedly in critical condition. Significant damage was also inflicted on several US refuelling aircraft stationed at the base, with satellite imagery later confirming the destruction of multiple assets.

The retaliation extended directly to Israeli soil late Friday night, as a barrage of missiles struck 11 different locations, including Tel Aviv. Local reports confirmed the death of a 60-year-old man in Tel Aviv following powerful explosions that rocked the city. Air raid sirens were activated near Beer Sheva and the Dimona nuclear research facility as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned of “even heavier prices” if the offensive continues. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that the strikes were a direct response to Israel’s attempt to destabilize Iran’s sovereign defence capabilities.

This marks a devastating blow to regional stability, occurring just a day after US President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claimed that Iran’s military capabilities had been effectively neutralized. The attack on Prince Sultan Air Base follows a previous incident on March 1, where Army Sergeant Benjamin N. Pennington was fatally wounded, bringing the total number of US service members killed in the current conflict to 13. As tensions peak, global energy markets and diplomatic channels are bracing for the next phase of this rapidly expanding regional war.
