California: Authorities in Southern California have arrested Simranjit Singh Sekhon, a 35-year-old ride-share driver from Bakersfield, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred during a late-night ride in Camarillo.
According to police, Sekhon picked up the victim outside a bar in Thousand Oaks at around 1:00 am on November 27 to drive her home. The woman, who had been drinking, reportedly fell asleep during the trip. Investigators say Sekhon allegedly continued driving her around Camarillo and assaulted her while she was unconscious.
Following an investigation, Sekhon was taken into custody on December 15 in Los Angeles County. He has been formally charged with rape of an unconscious person, with authorities noting the aggravating circumstance that the victim was particularly vulnerable at the time of the alleged assault.
Sekhon appeared in court for arraignment, entered a plea of not guilty, and remains in custody with bail set at $500,000. His next scheduled court appearance is an early disposition conference on December 29.
Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with additional information about the case to come forward, emphasizing the importance of reporting suspicious behavior to prevent further harm.
