Xinjiang: China on Thursday reported a magnitude 6.0 earthquake in Xinjiang, a remote northwestern region that borders Kyrgyzstan. According to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), the quake struck near Akqi county at 3:44 pm local time (0744 GMT), with the epicentre located 10 kilometres below the surface.

State media said that as of 4:34 pm, there were no reports of casualties or structural collapses from the affected area. Despite the strong tremor, essential services in the county—including power supply, transportation networks and telecommunication systems—continued to function normally.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, though early assessments suggest the region has avoided major impact.
