New Delhi: Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has once again made headlines off the pitch, debuting a sophisticated new tattoo on his left arm just days before the commencement of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The intricate artwork was crafted by Aliens Tattoo, the studio responsible for several of Kohli’s previous designs. According to the studio, the new piece is not merely an addition but a transformative project aimed at turning “scattered fragments” of his older ink into a single, cohesive sleeve that reflects his current mindset and personal journey.
The new design incorporates existing elements, such as an incomplete Shiva-inspired armband and older tattoos from different phases of his life, refining and restoring them while adding new layers of meaning. Key motifs in the updated sleeve include the lotus and the peony—symbols traditionally associated with resilience, spiritual growth, and the ability to flourish under pressure. While the studio highlighted the technical challenge of working with a “canvas” that already carried years of ink, they noted that the final result was a deliberate attempt to blend Kohli’s past experiences with his present-day precision and intent.
As the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain prepares for the upcoming season, he stands on the cusp of several historic milestones. Currently sitting at 8,661 runs in 267 matches, Kohli is favored to become the first player in history to cross the 9,000-run mark in the IPL. Additionally, with 9,085 runs for RCB across all T20 competitions, he is within striking distance of becoming the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs for a single franchise. On the global stage, Kohli is also chasing the elite 14,000-run club in T20 cricket, aiming to join the likes of Chris Gayle and David Warner as he enters his 19th year of competitive T20 play.
