Amritsar: A 35-year-old man, identified as Sohna Singh, was shot dead in broad daylight near Rajatal village in the Attari sector of Amritsar on Monday, March 30, 2026. Singh, a resident of Rajatal village, was reportedly on his way to work when unidentified assailants ambushed him. According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police reports, the attackers fired multiple rounds at Singh, killing him instantly. In a chilling turn to the crime, the suspects fled the scene with the victim’s motorcycle and mobile phone, leading investigators to look into both targeted killing and robbery-cum-murder angles.
Local residents rushed to the spot upon hearing the gunfire, but the perpetrators had already escaped. Visuals from the site showed the victim’s body lying on the road as grief-stricken family members reached the location. Amritsar Rural Police quickly cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation. While the immediate motive for the murder remains unclear, senior police officials stated that they are investigating potential personal enmity, old grudges, and the possibility of a highway robbery gone wrong.
The police have taken custody of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. To identify the assailants, specialized teams are currently scanning CCTV footage from cameras installed on the routes leading to and from Rajatal village. Police officials assured the public that the suspects would be identified and arrested soon. The brazen nature of the killing in the sensitive border belt of Attari has sparked significant concern among local villagers regarding the prevailing law and order situation in the district.
