Sri Muktsar Sahib: Sri Muktsar Sahib has been placed under heightened security as authorities gear up for the forthcoming Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections, with police deploying extensive arrangements to ensure peaceful and transparent polling across the district.
Acting on instructions from Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the security plan is being implemented under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Rana. Senior officers held a detailed briefing for personnel assigned election duties at the Police Lines, where teams were equipped with wireless communication and dispatched to their respective areas. SP (Headquarters) Harkamal Kaur and DSP (Headquarters) Tajinder Pal Singh were present during the briefing.
According to SSP Rana, the district will host 334 polling stations comprising 629 polling booths. To maintain order and prevent any untoward incidents, police patrols have been stationed around voting locations, while inter-district, inter-state and internal checkpoints have also been activated. In total, nearly 1,800 police personnel have been deployed for election-related duties.
The SSP said that sensitive and highly sensitive polling locations are under additional watch, with special patrol units and enhanced surveillance in place. He added that the police and district administration remain on standby throughout the election period and warned that any attempt to disrupt the democratic process would invite strict action.
Preventive measures are also being intensified, with checking drives underway at hotels, dhabas and roadside eateries to monitor suspicious movement and deter anti-social elements.
SSP Rana instructed officers to carry out their responsibilities with impartiality and discipline, emphasizing the need for a courteous and respectful approach towards voters. He said the priority remains to conduct the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner while ensuring public safety across the district.
