Rising Beas River Triggers Red Alert in Kapurthala, Evacuations Underway

Sultanpur Lodhi (Kapurthala), August 31, 2025: The district administration has issued an alert after the water level in the Beas River surged to 2.35 lakh cusecs due to incessant rainfall in the upper hilly regions. Residents in low-lying areas have been urged to move to safer locations immediately.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said the Meteorological Department has already issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Kapurthala district. He stressed that safeguarding human lives remains the top priority and that evacuation efforts are being carried out round the clock by Army personnel and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams.

The administration has also appealed to the public to contact dedicated helpline numbers for any assistance. The district control room numbers 62800-49331 and 01822-231990, along with the Sultanpur Lodhi Sub-Division Flood Control Room number 01828-222169, are operational 24/7.
