Chandigarh: In a significant crackdown, Punjab Police has dismantled an interstate illegal weapons supply module, arresting two accused from Uttar Pradesh and recovering 10 country-made pistols (7.65 mm) along with 20 magazines.

The operation was carried out by Counter Intelligence in Jalandhar, marking a major step in curbing the flow of illegal arms into the state. Officials said the accused were part of a larger network supplying weapons to criminal gangs in Punjab.

The arrests follow earlier action against operatives linked to Babbar Khalsa International, who were involved in procuring and planting explosives, including grenades and an improvised explosive device (IED) near Balachaur. The same IED was later used in a blast at a police station in Himachal Pradesh’s Nalagarh.

Investigations have also revealed the accused’s involvement in arranging weapons and carrying out firing incidents linked to extortion, including an attack at a travel agent’s residence in Garshankar, allegedly on instructions from foreign-based handlers.

Preliminary findings indicate that the arrested individuals were operating under the direction of handlers based in Germany and the United States, pointing to a wider international network orchestrating criminal and terror-related activities.

A case has been registered at SSOC Amritsar, and further investigation is underway to identify and dismantle the entire module. Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety across Punjab.
