Amritsar: Punjab Police have arrested two alleged gangsters in a major crackdown on terrorism and organised crime in the state. The arrests were made following a coordinated operation involving central security agencies, based on specific intelligence inputs.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the accused had been attempting to carry out criminal and terror-related activities in Punjab while operating from overseas locations, including Dubai and Armenia. According to police, both suspects had frequently changed their locations across multiple countries to evade security agencies before being traced.
The arrested men have been identified as Sajan Masih, a resident of Pathankot, and Manish Bedi, who hails from Amritsar. Police said the two were earlier active in Dubai before shifting their base to Armenia, from where they continued to manage illegal operations.
Investigations have revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based ISI handler Harvinder Rinda and US-based gangster Happy Passia. Police said they were allegedly involved in arms supply, murder and other serious criminal activities linked to organised crime and terror networks.
Based on confirmed intelligence, a special operation was launched with the support of central agencies, leading to the arrest of both accused from Mumbai. Police said further investigations are underway to identify their wider network and financial links.
Security agencies are also preparing to tighten the noose around their third associate, identified as Kuwait-based gangster Shamshere Shera, who is believed to be operating criminal activities from abroad. Officials said his movements are under constant surveillance and major action is expected soon.
Punjab Police said the arrests mark a significant step in dismantling terror-linked organised crime modules operating across international borders and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.
