Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has set up a dedicated CM Flying Squad to monitor and ensure the quality of ongoing road construction and repair projects across the state. The move is aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in the implementation of infrastructure works, particularly the extensive link road repair initiative recently launched by the state government.
According to an official announcement, the newly formed squad will comprise senior engineers from the Punjab Mandi Board and the Public Works Department (PWD). The team includes Davinder Singh, Baldev Singh, Manpreet Singh Dua, and Rajiv Saini, all serving as Superintending Engineers, who will oversee quality checks in the Malwa, Majha, and Doaba regions respectively.
The Chief Minister, while unveiling the initiative, emphasized that road infrastructure is the backbone of Punjab’s economy, particularly for the agricultural sector. “Every penny spent on road development must show in the quality of work. There will be no compromise on standards,” Mann stated.
The decision comes shortly after the Chief Minister kicked off an ambitious statewide repair and maintenance drive covering 19,492 kilometres of link roads, starting from Tarn Taran district. The project involves an investment of ₹3,425 crore and is expected to significantly improve connectivity in rural areas.
Role of the Flying Squad
The CM Flying Squad will conduct random inspections of ongoing and completed projects, checking construction materials, workmanship, and adherence to approved designs. Any lapses or substandard work detected during these inspections will invite strict administrative action against the contractors or officials responsible.
Officials said the move aims to prevent corruption and ensure that taxpayers’ money is utilized effectively. The squads will submit detailed reports directly to the Chief Minister’s Office, allowing for swift redressal of irregularities.
Push for Quality and Transparency
With Punjab investing heavily in improving its rural road network, this oversight mechanism is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining high construction standards. The government hopes that consistent monitoring will help eliminate poor-quality work that often leads to rapid road deterioration.
The initiative underscores CM Bhagwant Mann’s focus on governance reforms and his administration’s commitment to delivering durable, high-quality public infrastructure that benefits both farmers and commuters alike.
