Chandigarh: In an outstanding academic feat, Tamana from Saraswati Senior Secondary School, Jaito in Faridkot has secured the top position in the Class 8 examinations conducted by the Punjab School Education Board, scoring a perfect 600 out of 600.
The results, declared late Thursday evening, also saw Japneet Kaur of Government Middle School, Arkwas in Sangrur secure the second position with 598 marks (99.67%), while Jashandeep Kaur of Sant Mohan Das Memorial Senior Secondary School, Kot Sukhia (Faridkot) stood third with the same score. Notably, all three toppers are also sports achievers, reflecting excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities.
Out of a total of 2,62,966 students who appeared for the examination, 2,53,789 passed, taking the overall success rate to an impressive 96.51%.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains credited the high pass percentage to the education reforms introduced under the leadership of Bhagwant Singh Mann. He said the results reflect the government’s focus on improving learning outcomes across the state.
Congratulating the successful candidates, Bains also encouraged students who could not clear the exams to remain positive, assuring them of additional academic support to help improve their performance in future attempts.
