Amritsar: The internal crisis within the Punjab Congress has intensified, with former state president Navjot Singh Sidhu now stepping into the ongoing controversy. Following the uproar created by his wife Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s recent remarks, Sidhu has requested a meeting with Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. He wants to present his side before the party high command takes any decision.
Meanwhile, the Congress high command has set up a high-level committee to probe Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s statement alleging a ₹500-crore offer related to the chief minister’s post. The committee will be headed by Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, while details of the other members are yet to be revealed. The party has adopted a strict stance and has sought a detailed report from Baghel. With the 2027 Assembly elections approaching, the leadership is reportedly unhappy with the controversy erupting within the party.
Navjot Singh Sidhu, on the other hand, has not made any public statement regarding the issue so far. Reports of his visit to Amritsar and later Mumbai surfaced, but he has stayed away from the media. Known for his outspoken comments on social media, Sidhu has remained silent this time, choosing not to react publicly.
