Jalandhar: A violent confrontation claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy in Jalandhar on Friday night, sending shockwaves through the locality. The teenager, who was related to former MLA and BJP leader Sheetal Angural, was allegedly stabbed during an altercation in the Shivaji Nagar area under Basti Danishmandan.
According to initial police accounts, the youth, identified as Vikas, was confronted by three individuals during a dispute that quickly escalated. One of the attackers is said to have used a sharp weapon, inflicting severe injuries. The assailants escaped immediately after the incident, while locals alerted emergency services.
Vikas was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but doctors were unable to save him. News of the killing prompted Sheetal Angural to visit the site, where he claimed the incident was connected to ongoing drug-related conflicts in the area.
Reacting strongly, BJP general secretary Ashok Sarin denounced the murder and accused the Punjab government of failing to curb the spread of narcotics. He stated that the unchecked drug trade had fostered lawlessness in parts of Jalandhar, endangering young lives.
Police officials from Division No. 5 reached the spot shortly after the incident and have launched a detailed probe. CCTV recordings from the surrounding streets are being reviewed, and a local youth known as Kalu has emerged as the prime suspect. Authorities said efforts are underway to arrest those responsible and restore calm in the neighbourhood.
