Amritsar, Punjab: A shocking incident has come to light from Punjab’s Amritsar district, where a 16-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her stepfather inside their residence. Police have arrested the accused and launched a detailed investigation into the case.
According to Superintendent of Police Vishal Jeet, the police received information about the killing of a minor girl aged between 15 and 16 years. Acting swiftly, a team from Islamabad police station reached the spot and assessed the situation. A forensic team was also summoned to collect evidence from the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl’s mother, Anita, worked at a thread factory and had gone to work on the morning of the incident along with her other children. When she returned home about an hour later, she found her daughter Preeti lying in a pool of blood inside the house.
Police officials said Anita’s husband Sonu, a native of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, had married her after her first marriage. The minor girl was Anita’s daughter from her previous marriage. The couple also has three children together and had been living in a rented accommodation at Kot Khalsa.
Investigators found that Sonu allegedly developed an inappropriate intent towards his stepdaughter, leading to frequent domestic disputes. On the day of the incident, he allegedly attacked the girl with a wooden stick, hitting her on the head and killing her on the spot.
The accused was arrested shortly after the incident and will be produced before the court to seek police remand for further interrogation. Police have recovered the wooden stick used in the crime and stated that the case is being investigated thoroughly to establish all circumstances surrounding the murder.
Officials confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and assured that strict action would be taken against the accused.
