New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the widespread devastation caused by floods in Punjab, which have displaced and affected more than 2.5 lakh people. Extending condolences to families who have lost loved ones, he emphasized the need for urgent relief and rehabilitation.

Kharge said he has already spoken with senior Congress leaders in Punjab to coordinate support on the ground. “The Congress party will extend all possible help to those impacted,” he stated.

The opposition leader pressed both the Centre and the state government to intensify efforts, highlighting the importance of immediate medical care, relief distribution, and long-term rehabilitation measures. He further called for a special financial package to cover not only Punjab but also Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Haryana, all of which are struggling with flood-related destruction.

Mallikarjun Kharge cautioned against political point-scoring during such crises and urged that funds from the PM CARES initiative be directed toward ensuring fair compensation and support for those affected across the northern states.
