Chandigarh– The ongoing strike by lawyers at the Punjab and Haryana High Court was called off on Thursday after the Hisar police administration initiated strict departmental action against a Station House Officer (SHO) accused of misconduct. The decision to withdraw the protest has brought relief to litigants and restored normal functioning of the court.
The agitation had erupted over an alleged incident in Hisar in which police personnel were accused of entering the residence of a lawyer and assaulting him. The incident triggered widespread anger within the legal fraternity, prompting lawyers to suspend work and launch a collective protest at the High Court.
Amid sustained pressure from the Bar Association, the Hisar police administration placed the accused SHO under ‘line duty’ with immediate effect. Following this move, lawyers said their key demand had been fulfilled and announced the end of the strike.
Court proceedings are expected to resume smoothly with the withdrawal of the protest.
