New Delhi: A recent leadership change within the Aam Aadmi Party has sparked political chatter, with newly appointed Rajya Sabha deputy leader Ashok Mittal responding to speculation about his predecessor, Raghav Chadha.
Mittal, who was named to the position following Chadha’s replacement, dismissed reports suggesting that the latter might switch allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Speaking to reporters, he clarified that he had no information about any such development and refrained from commenting on unverified claims.
The reshuffle, announced on Thursday, has drawn attention across political circles, with opposition parties alleging internal discord within AAP. However, party leaders have maintained that the move is part of routine organisational restructuring.
Addressing concerns about Chadha’s role going forward, Mittal emphasised that the party continues to function on democratic principles. He stated that all members, including Chadha, would be given opportunities to participate in parliamentary proceedings.
“Every leader gets a chance to present their views. That remains unchanged,” Mittal said, indicating that Chadha would continue to be accommodated during debates in the Rajya Sabha.
Earlier, reports had suggested that communication was sent to the Upper House secretariat regarding changes in speaking allocations. Mittal, however, sought to allay such concerns, reiterating that no leader would be sidelined.
Meanwhile, Chadha broke his silence a day after the development, releasing a video message in which he claimed he had been “silenced, not defeated,” further fuelling speculation about tensions within the party led by Arvind Kejriwal.
