Amritsar: In a significant crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, the Punjab Police has dismantled a cross-border smuggling network operating in Amritsar, leading to the arrest of three individuals along with a juvenile suspect.
Officials from the Amritsar Commissionerate carried out the operation, recovering a cache of sophisticated weapons, including seven pistols, a dozen live cartridges and a motorcycle believed to have been used for transportation.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused were in touch with handlers based in Pakistan through social media platforms. Investigators believe the group played a key role in facilitating the movement of illegal arms across the border, particularly in areas near the Attari sector.
According to police sources, consignments were dropped at pre-decided نقاط (locations) along the border and later collected by operatives on the Indian side. These weapons were then allegedly supplied to criminal elements within Punjab, raising concerns about their potential use in unlawful activities.
A case has been registered at a local police station under provisions of the Arms Act, and authorities have launched a deeper probe to uncover the wider network. Efforts are underway to trace both the supply chain originating across the border and the distribution channels within the state.
Police officials emphasized that further arrests could follow as investigators work to identify additional links and collaborators connected to the operation.
Reiterating its firm stance, the Punjab Police stated that it remains committed to curbing organized crime and preventing the circulation of illegal weapons, particularly those with cross-border origins.
