Amritsar: A broad daylight attack on a cloth merchant in the Mustafabad area of Amritsar has sparked panic among local residents and the business community. The incident occurred on Sunday around 12:30 PM at ‘Madan Cloth House,’ where the owner, identified as Amit, was targeted by four masked youths. The merchant sustained severe injuries to his head and hands during the assault and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
According to the victim, the assailants had been loitering around the shop before entering under the guise of customers. Once other patrons had cleared the premises, the attackers pulled out sharp-edged weapons, specifically ‘datars,’ and launched a sudden assault. While the victim claimed that the youths fled with approximately ₹10,000 from the cash counter, police officials have currently downplayed the robbery angle, stating that the primary complaint focuses on the physical assault and personal enmity or other motives are being investigated.
Amit, who has been running the business for 35 years, stated that this is the first such incident he has faced in over three decades of work. Local police have registered a case against unidentified persons and are actively scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity to trace the escape route of the masked men. Authorities have assured the public that the suspects will be apprehended shortly, as forensic teams have already processed the crime scene for evidence.
