Mohali: A 22-year-old LLB student of Chandigarh University was brutally stabbed to death in the Gharuan area of Kharar, Mohali, in the early hours of Wednesday. The victim, identified as Aman Dahiya, was a resident of Ghibalana village in Haryana’s Sonepat district (though initial reports mentioned Panipat). The incident has sparked significant fear and tension in the locality, which is home to thousands of university students. Following a swift investigation, the Mohali police have booked four individuals, including a female friend of the victim, under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the police, the incident occurred around 3:00 AM when Aman had gone to drop off a female university friend at her flat in a local housing society. As he stepped out of his vehicle, he was surrounded by three youths—identified by the victim before his death as Ram, Monu, and Vinay—who allegedly stabbed him multiple times in the chest and back. Despite his severe injuries, Aman managed to run to a nearby vacant plot and call his friends for help. He was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32, Chandigarh, but was declared dead by doctors upon arrival.
Kharar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Karan Sandhu stated that preliminary investigations point toward an “old rivalry” as the motive for the killing. The assailants reportedly suspected Aman of being a police informant and providing their names in a previous criminal case. The victim’s family also alleged that Aman had recently mentioned receiving death threats from one of the accused, Ram. In addition to the three primary suspects, the police are questioning the female friend who was present at the time of the attack to determine her level of involvement or knowledge of the conspiracy.
One of the accused has already been arrested, while police raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. Investigators are currently scrutinizing CCTV footage from the housing society and surrounding areas to piece together the exact sequence of events. The post-mortem examination was conducted on Wednesday at GMCH-32, and the body has been handed over to the family for final rites. The police have emphasized that they are looking into all angles, including the suspected “tip-off” motive that led to the fatal confrontation.
