Gurdaspur: Tension gripped the Gurdaspur district on Friday after multiple schools received bomb threat emails warning of explosions ahead of the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The threats, which targeted prominent educational institutions, sparked fear among students, parents and school administrations, prompting an immediate response from the district police.
According to officials, bomb threat emails were sent to Gurdaspur Public School, Trinity Public School and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The emails allegedly warned the schools not to send their students to the district-level Republic Day function, threatening to blow up the institutions if the warning was ignored. Following the messages, a sense of panic prevailed across the schools, with anxious parents rushing to contact authorities and school managements.
Upon receiving information about the threats, the Gurdaspur district police swung into action and initiated a detailed investigation. Security was tightened in and around the affected schools, and police teams began verifying the origin and credibility of the emails. Officials said the threats are being taken seriously, especially in view of the upcoming national event.
A senior police official said that cyber experts have been engaged to trace the sender of the emails, while intelligence inputs are also being examined to rule out any organised conspiracy. Although no suspicious objects have been recovered so far, police said all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The situation has caused deep concern among parents, many of whom expressed fear and anger over repeated threat emails being sent to schools in recent months. They questioned why those responsible have not yet been identified or arrested, despite similar incidents occurring earlier.
The police also noted that a day earlier, DIPS School in nearby Tanda had received a similar bomb threat, adding to concerns about a possible pattern of hoax emails aimed at creating panic.
While authorities stressed that initial assessments suggest the threats may be hoaxes, they reiterated that no laxity would be shown. Security arrangements in Gurdaspur have been strengthened, and schools have been advised to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing, and police said strict action will be taken once the culprits behind the threat emails are identified.
