Amritsar: The Special Cell team of Amritsar Rural Police has arrested two accused and recovered four pistols, 24 live cartridges, one kilogram of opium and 25 grams of heroin from their possession. Police also seized two mobile phones and a motorcycle from the accused.
The arrested persons have been identified as Sukhraj Singh and Jaskaran Singh, both residents of village Jass Muhar under the jurisdiction of Ajnala police station.
According to the police, both accused were involved in drug trafficking and the supply of illegal weapons for a long time. Amritsar Rural Police Superintendent Suhail Mir said the Special Cell team was conducting a naka (checkpoint) near a newly constructed bridge close to village Boparai Baj Singh and checking vehicles.
During this time, a motorcycle was seen approaching from the side of village Khurmanian. When the police attempted to stop the vehicle, the riders tried to flee. However, the police team acted swiftly and overpowered both suspects.
In connection with the incident, an FIR No. 331 has been registered at Lopoke police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Arms Act.
Police said a detailed investigation into the forward and backward links of the accused is underway, and strict legal action will be taken against any other persons found involved during the probe.
