Amritsar: The Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, has urged the Punjab government to declare complete ‘dry days’ across the state on the martyrdom anniversaries of the Sahibzadas.
In a strong statement, Giani Gargaj said that liquor shops should remain fully closed throughout Punjab on the days commemorating the supreme sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh’s Sahibzadas. He stressed that observing these days with sobriety and respect is essential to uphold Sikh values and collective historical consciousness.
The Acting Jathedar said the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas represents unparalleled courage, faith and sacrifice, and any form of commercial sale of alcohol on such occasions undermines the sanctity of these solemn days. He added that declaring statewide dry days would reflect the government’s sensitivity towards Sikh sentiments and ensure that the days are observed with due reverence.
Giani Gargaj further appealed to the state administration to take proactive steps to honour Sikh history and traditions, especially during important religious occasions. He said such measures would also help instil awareness among the younger generation about the sacrifices made for righteousness and justice.
