AAP-Linked Sarpanch Shot Dead at Wedding in Tarn Taran; Cousin Critical

Tarn Taran (Punjab): In a shocking broad daylight attack, Harbrinder Singh, the sitting Sarpanch of village Thathian Mahantan and reportedly associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was shot dead by unidentified assailants during a wedding function in Tarn Taran district on Tuesday.

According to preliminary information, the Sarpanch had arrived at a private marriage palace to attend a wedding ceremony and was seated with close acquaintances when two to three armed attackers allegedly entered the premises. The assailants reportedly opened indiscriminate fire, specifically targeting Harbrinder Singh, who died on the spot.

During the firing, his cousin Germanjeet Singh sustained serious bullet injuries. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and is stated to be in critical condition.

Senior police officials reached the scene shortly after receiving information, accompanied by a heavy police presence. The area has been cordoned off, and a manhunt has been launched to trace and apprehend the accused.

Forensic teams are examining the crime scene, and CCTV footage from nearby locations is being scrutinised as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police officials said the motive behind the attack is yet to be established. Further investigation is underway.
