New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called upon citizens to actively participate in the democratic process, stressing that casting a vote is not merely a constitutional entitlement but a vital responsibility that empowers individuals to influence the nation’s direction.

Extending his wishes on the occasion of National Voters’ Day, observed every year on January 25, the Prime Minister said the day serves as a reminder to reinforce collective commitment to democratic ideals. In a message shared on social media platform X, Modi highlighted the importance of public participation in sustaining India’s democratic framework.

“Warm greetings on #NationalVotersDay. This occasion encourages us to deepen our faith in the democratic principles that define our nation,” he wrote.

Commending the Election Commission of India for its consistent efforts in upholding electoral integrity and expanding voter awareness, Modi acknowledged the institution’s role in strengthening democratic practices across the country.

He underlined that voting is more than a legal right. “Being a voter is not only a constitutional privilege, but also a crucial duty that allows every citizen to shape India’s future,” the Prime Minister said, urging people to engage meaningfully in elections and other democratic exercises.

Calling for sustained civic participation, Modi added that active involvement in democratic processes is essential to building a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India), rooted in strong institutions and informed citizenry.

National Voters’ Day commemorates the establishment of the Election Commission of India on January 25, 1950, and aims to encourage informed and enthusiastic participation in the electoral system.
