Amritsar: Security forces in Punjab thwarted a potential terror strike after the Amritsar Rural Police apprehended a suspect carrying an improvised explosive device (IED) on Friday.
According to officials, the arrest was made following specific intelligence inputs indicating suspicious activity in the region. The accused was intercepted while allegedly attempting to dispose of the explosive, which he is believed to have collected from the Ramdas area. The device was seized during the operation, and a case has been registered.
Preliminary findings have raised concerns about possible cross-border involvement, with investigators suspecting links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence. Police sources revealed that multiple Pakistani phone numbers were found on the accused’s mobile device, suggesting communication with handlers based across the border via internet calling platforms.
Authorities also suspect that the explosive may have been delivered through a drone from across the border, a tactic that has been increasingly used in recent incidents.
The suspect is currently being interrogated to trace his network and identify potential collaborators. Central intelligence agencies are expected to join the investigation to further examine the suspected international connections.
Meanwhile, investigators are also exploring whether the arrested individual has any involvement in the recent grenade attack at the Bhindi Saida police station. Officials stated that the probe is ongoing, and more details are likely to emerge as questioning continues.
