Ludhiana: Tension is mounting in the city after multiple legislators from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) reported security threats in recent days. A day after Central constituency MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi was allegedly threatened and provided enhanced protection, another incident involving Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu has surfaced, raising fresh concerns.
According to Sidhu’s family, a suspicious grey vehicle was seen repeatedly moving around their neighbourhood late at night. The MLA’s son confirmed that CCTV footage from the area captured the car circling the locality several times, prompting fears that the family’s movements were being monitored.
He stated that the unusual activity came to light after residents shared alerts in a local messaging group. Upon reviewing the surveillance recordings, the family noticed the same vehicle appearing multiple times near their home. The development has led to apprehensions that the MLA may be under watch.
The incident assumes significance in light of past threats received by Sidhu. Earlier, he had reportedly been threatened by Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, associated with a banned outfit. Following that episode, security agencies had advised the legislator to avoid answering calls from unidentified international numbers. Family members now claim that several such overseas calls were received on his phone last week as well.
The repeated security scares have created unease among party workers and supporters. Political observers say the pattern of threats against elected representatives has triggered serious discussions within local political circles.
Police authorities have been informed about the latest development and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle and ascertain the intent behind its presence. Officials have not ruled out any angle and are expected to intensify surveillance in the coming days.
Meanwhile, security arrangements for affected MLAs are being reassessed to ensure their safety amid the growing concerns.
