Noida: A workers’ demonstration over delayed wage revisions in Noida took a violent turn on Monday, with reports of arson, vandalism, and stone-pelting emerging from Phase-2 and Sector 60, according to police sources.
Hundreds of employees from multiple industrial units had gathered to demand long-overdue salary hikes, raising slogans and voicing grievances. The protest, initially peaceful, escalated when a section of participants reportedly damaged property, hurled stones, and set a vehicle on fire.
The unrest caused damage to vehicles and other property, while commuters experienced significant traffic disruptions in the affected zones.
Authorities have deployed police personnel across industrial areas under the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate. Senior officials, both from the police and administration, were present on-site to monitor the situation and ensure containment.
Police stated that the situation is under control, with continuous monitoring in place. “Efforts are being made to counsel the workers and restore peace. Minimum force is being applied wherever necessary to maintain law and order,” the statement read.
Officials have urged citizens not to act on rumours and assured that normal conditions are gradually being restored in the impacted areas.
