Kolkata: Young all-rounder Abhishek Sharma has come under disciplinary action from the Board of Control for Cricket in India after breaching the league’s code of conduct during a recent Indian Premier League encounter.
The Indian Premier League confirmed that the Sunrisers Hyderabad player has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point following the team’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
While Sharma impressed with the bat—scoring a quickfire 48 off just 21 deliveries—his on-field behaviour drew the attention of match officials. Though the exact moment was not detailed in the official statement, the offence falls under Article 2.3, which relates to the use of inappropriate or offensive language during a game.
According to league authorities, the cricketer acknowledged the breach and accepted the penalty imposed by the match referee. As per IPL regulations, decisions in Level 1 violations are considered final once admitted by the player.
The incident serves as a reminder that even minor breaches can carry consequences. While a single demerit point is not severe, repeated violations could result in tougher sanctions, including possible suspension from matches.
Despite the disciplinary setback, Sharma’s return to form with the bat provided a boost for Hyderabad, highlighting his growing importance in the team’s campaign this season.
