Sikar, Rajasthan: A late-night collision between a sleeper bus and a truck on the Jaipur–Bikaner National Highway claimed four lives and left 27 others injured on Tuesday, authorities confirmed early Wednesday.
The crash occurred in Sikar district when the bus, travelling toward Jaipur from Bikaner, collided head-on with an oncoming truck. The impact left the front portions of both vehicles crumpled, trapping several passengers inside.
Victims Taken to Nearby Hospitals
Police officials said 15 of the injured were rushed to the Sikar district hospital, where doctors treated multiple cases of fractures and head injuries. Thirteen others received first aid at a primary health centre in Fatehgarh. One passenger who had been transferred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur for advanced care later succumbed to injuries, bringing the death toll to four.
Emergency teams, including local police and medical staff, worked through the night to rescue passengers and clear the roadway. The condition of some of the injured remains serious, officials said.
Passengers Were Returning From Pilgrimage
Investigators revealed that the bus was carrying a group returning to Gujarat after visiting Jammu and Kashmir. Police are examining whether speeding, driver fatigue or poor visibility played a role in the crash.
Senior officers said a detailed inquiry has been launched and that efforts are underway to identify the deceased and notify their families.
The accident caused temporary disruption to traffic on the busy national highway, but normal movement resumed after both vehicles were removed from the scene.
Authorities have urged transport operators to increase safety checks on long-distance routes, especially during late-night operations when accidents are more common.
