Ludhiana: A devastating road accident in Ludhiana shortly after midnight on Sunday claimed the lives of five people, including two young girls, in what authorities are calling one of the most horrific crashes in the area this year.
The collision took place near the Ladhowal toll plaza when a Hyundai Verna, reportedly travelling at high speed, slammed into a road divider. The impact caused the vehicle to flip over and skid across the road for several metres. The force of the crash left the car mangled beyond recognition, and the victims’ bodies suffered severe injuries.
Emergency teams shifted the bodies to the Civil Hospital at around 1 a.m. Police officials confirmed that the deceased had not been identified at the time of arrival, though preliminary information suggests they were residents of Jagraon. Among the victims were two minor girls and three young men.
According to initial findings, the car was headed from South City towards Ladhowal when the driver apparently lost control. Investigators believe excessive speed played a major role in the accident, though a detailed inquiry is underway to determine whether any other factors contributed.
ASI Kashmir Singh from the Ladhowal police station was among the first responders at the scene. He notified the NHAI ambulance service, after which rescue personnel worked to extract the bodies from the wreckage.
Police authorities are now trying to trace the families of the victims. A formal investigation has been launched to understand the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatal crash.
