Sitapur(UttarPradesh)— A 35-year-old woman allegedly attempted suicide by slitting her wrist inside a police outpost in Sitapur district after her partner, who is also her husband’s nephew, refused to continue their relationship, police said on Monday.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the Qutubnagar police outpost under Pisavan police station limits. According to SHO Virendra Tomar, the woman, identified as Pooja Mishra, arrived at the outpost with a blade and used it to injure herself when her partner Alok (23) refused to reconcile. She was immediately rushed to the district hospital, where her condition is reported to be stable.
Police said Pooja had been married to Virendra for nine years and the couple has two sons aged five and seven. Her husband, who works in Delhi, had called his nephew Alok a few years ago to assist him at work. During this period, Pooja and Alok reportedly developed a relationship. When Virendra discovered the affair, he sent Alok back to his village.
However, Pooja later left her husband and children to live with Alok in Bareilly, where he worked as an auto-rickshaw driver. The relationship eventually soured, prompting Alok to distance himself and return to his native village. Upset over this, Pooja followed him to Sitapur, where an argument between them led to police intervention.
“At the police outpost, when Alok refused to continue the relationship, Pooja suddenly slit her wrist,” SHO Tomar said.
Sitapur Police confirmed in a post on X that the woman is out of danger. Both individuals have been counselled, and no official complaint has been filed in the matter.
