Ghazipur: Two women lost their lives and three others, including two children, sustained injuries in a collision between a car and a container truck near the MCD Toll Plaza on National Highway-9 in east Delhi’s Ghazipur on Thursday morning.
According to police, the accident took place around 6:43 a.m. when the car, reportedly travelling from Ghaziabad towards Delhi, crashed into the rear of a truck stationed or moving near the toll booths. The impact left the vehicle badly damaged.
Officials identified the deceased as Deepanjali, 38, and Neelam Garg, 55, both passengers in the car. One of the women was found outside the vehicle, while the other was trapped in the front passenger seat and had to be extricated. Both were declared dead at the spot by responding authorities.
After completing inquest proceedings, the bodies were shifted to Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
The injured — including the driver, Deepanshu Garg, and two minor children — were rushed to a private hospital in the city for medical care. Their current condition has not been officially disclosed.
Police have registered a case and begun an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the crash. Officers said factors such as speed, visibility and the positioning of the truck are being examined as part of the probe.
Traffic in the area was briefly affected following the collision but was later restored after the damaged vehicles were removed from the site.
