Sukma– Three Naxalites, including a woman, were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Thursday, police officials said.
The exchange of fire took place in the morning on a forested hill in the Golapalli police station area when a team of the District Reserve Guard launched a search operation following intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoist cadres, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said.
The bodies of three Naxalites have been recovered from the encounter site so far. The operation is still underway and further details are awaited, the police said.
With the latest encounter, the number of Naxalites killed in operations across Chhattisgarh this year has risen to 284. Of these, 255 were neutralised in the Bastar division, which includes districts such as Sukma, Bijapur and Dantewada.
Another 27 Naxalites were killed in Gariaband district under the Raipur division, while two were gunned down in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district of the Durg division, officials added.
